The other night we went out on the patio and had an amazing dinner together. “Big whoop, Dalton. What’s your point?” My point is, we usually eat dinner watching a movie or something. You know, chill out, turn off a little bit and eat. I had totally forgotten what the point of eating together was suppose to be about. The simple act of eating and slowing everything down. Making the person in front of me and the meal “the show” instead of watching a movie and having the eating together be something that just happens during it. The food and time were shared instead of simply consumed. It was a ceremony of simplicity and in that I found a bit more gratitude and a healthy dollop of happiness in my life. Now mind you, eating together doesn’t have to involve another person. It can be you and you. Slowing down and paying attention to what’s happening in your life right now. The food. Each bite. You sitting and enjoying all of it. Netflix will be there later. The Bachelor always picks the wrong one anyway. Drop the remote for an hour, make some food and check out what’s for dinner. There are little gems hidden in the most mundane of places. In the most run of the mill activities. We just need to stop looking at what’s over there and start looking at what’s right in front of us. You’ll be surprised.
