Business in front and a party in back.

I had a dream last night and when I awoke from this odd winter trance all I remembered was the phrase “business in front and a party in back” (refer to photo above). What the hell did this mean? Am I destined to bring back my sweet sweet mullet? Have I not been partying enough? What was this mysterious verbal wraith trying to tell me?

I think it was trying to tell me to find balance. That when the days get shorter and the nights get longer we need to adhere to what nature is telling us. Slow down. Rest. This is the time to recharge, restore and renew. Any power lifter will tell you if you want to get strong you have to rest. A lot of our world has become a homogenized cocktail of a shopping mall, a 24hr convenience store and an amazon warehouse. Not the most dynamic of situations. Like the Vegas threesome love child of Venice Beach on a weekend, Black Friday at Best Buy and Donald Trump over using the word “tremendous”.

So, not a lot of of that world is going to change due to the seasons. That doesn’t mean we have to follow that atrocious example of existence though. We weren’t thrown “into” this world… we came “out” of it. We are part of it, so follow it. Yes, we have to make a living. Yes, we have to pay the bills. There’s nothing wrong with drive and motivation to succeed. That’s why “business” is in front. Yet, to find the balance to all that business we need to “party” as well. And I’m not talking about trashing hotel rooms or raiding your parents liquor cabinet while they’re out to dinner with “Uncle” Jim and his new girlfriend. I’m talking about reading a book, taking a nap or watching “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” (so obtuse and weird) with your fave holiday beverage.

I think we’re all wired to want to be strong in one way or another, so listen to the season and hibernate a bit. Crawl out of the cave in 2021 stronger than when you went in. Nature will and does balance itself. We come from nature. We are nature.

So check out from what’s going on out there in the “real world” and check in to yourself for a sec. Find balance. Rest and do wintery holiday stuff. It’s now up to you to start sporting “business in front and a party in back”… I’ve already done my time (refer to photo above).
